ConnectMyAssets vs rConfig

rConfig is a capable open-source NCM tool with a web interface, configuration backup, and compliance templates. ConnectMyAssets is a commercial platform built for European compliance, isolated industrial networks, and enterprise environments requiring full data sovereignty. This page compares both tools.

When rConfig Is the Right Tool

We believe in honest comparisons. rConfig is a solid tool and the right choice in specific situations:

Budget-constrained environments
If licensing costs are a hard constraint and you have the engineering capacity to self-host and maintain the platform, rConfig's open-source model eliminates software costs entirely.
DIY / self-hosted preference
Teams that prefer full control over their tooling, want to customize the codebase, or have strong opinions about self-hosted infrastructure will find rConfig a natural fit.
No EU compliance requirements
If your organization is not subject to NIS2, DORA, or other EU regulatory frameworks, and you do not operate in critical infrastructure or financial services, rConfig's compliance gaps are less relevant.

Migrating from rConfig to ConnectMyAssets

01

Export Your rConfig Device List & History

Export your device list and configuration history from rConfig. ConnectMyAssets provides an rConfig import tool that reads the rConfig database export and maps devices, configurations, and historical backups to the ConnectMyAssets data model. Your full configuration history is preserved.

02

Deploy ConnectMyAssets

Deploy the ConnectMyAssets appliance on your infrastructure (VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, or equivalent). Configure your device credentials in ConnectMyAssets. The platform begins collecting configurations and runs parallel backups alongside rConfig until you are ready to cut over.

03

Activate Compliance & Decommission rConfig

Configure your NIS2 or DORA compliance policies in ConnectMyAssets and generate your first compliance report. Once your team is comfortable with ConnectMyAssets and all devices are covered, shut down rConfig. The migration is complete.
